Software Engineering and Informatics

ITL conducts research in software engineering and informatics to solve problems in military engineering, civil and environmental engineering, basic sciences, and geospatial and business applications.

Our research requires expertise in software development, information assurance, software processes, IT operations, and enterprise architecture of IT systems. We use this expertise to develop critical systems for DoD in such areas as logistics, program management, real estate, and environmental quality. Examples of our work in SEI include:

• Information Assurance. Protection of Army operations, missions, and lives by securing and defending the Army's section of the global information grid.
• CAD/BIM for DoD. Software, standards, and support for architects, engineers, and consultants with data relating to cost engineering, specifications, interior design, and energy design.
• Library and Knowledge Transfer. Lifecycle management of ERDC knowledge using technology.
• Management Information Systems (MIS). Management information systems developed in ITL to support the business processes of research or management programs of ERDC.
